Wow!
So, acclaimed writer Greg Rucka is on a bit of a roll. His monthly series, Lazarus, published by Image Comics, has been receiving rave reviews from both comic book fans and comic book critics since its inception in late June of last year. This column actually highlighted it as a must-read pick when it first came out. You can catch that particular Wednesday Run here. If you haven’t been reading Lazarus, I still highly recommend it. It’s a sci-fi-noir-blast!
But Rucka’s not one to rest on his laurels. Nope. Today, he’s at it again with a different publisher, premiering a brand new mini-series. This time it’s with Dark Horse Comics. And this time, the genre is horror.
Follow me after the jump, and I’ll help lift the veil on Greg Ruck’s Veil!

Known best for his dark and gritty noir stories, the more horror-tinged Veil still has Rucka presenting those aesthetics at the core of the comic.
In the first issue, we’re given a beautiful girl who wakes up alone and naked in a desolate subway station – with no memory of how she got there. It’s the starting point to a mysterious story that alludes to witchcraft and an exchange of money. Men, we’re told, who try to hurt our enigmatic protagonist, turn up dead. So, who exactly is she? And what powers might she have under her control? It’s a fascinating premise.
Joining Rucka is artist Toni Fejula (no stranger to the horror genre via the series Cthulhu), whose visual storytelling immensely adds to the sense of foreboding in Veil. There’s atmosphere here, dark and menacing. You can catch a free preview of Veil, and some of those great images here.
Magic. Mystery. Horror. Noir. And a new, genre-crossing, heroine. That’s what Rucka and Fejzula are presenting to us here. Find out why we here at Biff Bam Pop! are such fans of Greg Rucka’s work. Be here as the veil of secrecy is lifted and answers, no matter how horrific, are found!
Make the run to your local comic book shop today and pick up Veil #1. You will not be disappointed!
Every Wednesday, JP makes the after-work run to his local downtown comic book shop. Comics arrive on Wednesdays you see and JP, fearful that the latest issue will sell out, rushes out to purchase his copy. This regular, weekly column will highlight a particularly interesting release, written in short order, of course, because JP has to get his – before someone else does!
