Manor Black is the new title from the creators of Harrow County, a long-time favourite ‘round these parts of the interwebs. Evidence to that can be found here and here and here.

Harrow County, which lasted for thirty-two monthly issues, was absolutely brilliant, darkly brilliant, stuff by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Tyler Crook. It was so good, the comic was optioned as a television series via Universal Cable Productions (NBC). Hopefully that particular storytelling endeavour comes to fruition! Until then the series exists for new (and old) readers in a number of handsome hardcover and softcover compilations.

Today, the two creatives behind that acclaimed series are joined by writer Brian Hurtt on the new Manor Black miniseries, published by Dark Horse Comics.

For those that love the horror and mystery genres, today couldn’t get much better, with Manor Black #1 making the top of our must-read list.

While Harrow County was a southern gothic horror story about, at its essence, witches and all sorts of hoo-doo, Manor Black is a straight-up gothic thriller. But it’s also about family and magic. Black magic that is!

Roman Black is the old patriarch of a sorcerer family, and he’s looking to pass the keys to his empire of the dark arts. But, like many families, his children bicker and fight over who those keys belong to. When it comes to black magic, that infighting takes the shape of wickedness and corruption.

But there is true evil in the world – evil that must be fought and defeated. Can Roman Black, the sorcerer, find a good person on whom to endow his greatest gifts?

How about an adopted young mage?

And how might the rest of the family feel about that?

It won’t sit well, that’s for certain.

There’s a dark and mystical storm brewing through the four issue Manor Black miniseries! Who will live? Who will die? Who is good? And who is truly evil? Most importantly, who will be the Black sorcerer supreme?

The story is truly eerie and magical (in the darkest way possible) and the art by Tyler Crook is absolutely spine-tingling! Make the Wednesday run to your local comic book shop today and pick up the gloriously thrilling and mysteriously frightening Manor Black #1!
