Mind MGMT is one of the all-time mind-screw comic book series’ that you could ever read outside of a Philip K. Dick novel.

That honour, as well as it being a great series about espionage, conspiracy theories and human relationships, not to mention the art of storytelling.  It also happens to be one of this writer’s all-time comic book faves.

Always ahead of the curve, Biff Bam Pop! interviewed Mind MGMT creator, Matt Kindt, ten years ago (jeez, time flies!), at the outset of the first issue of the series. We’ve since highlighted the high-concept science fiction/speculative fiction comic on a number occasions, including here and here and here and, very creatively, here.

You see, that’s part of the fun with Mind MGMT. Not only is it a great story, but it’s great storytelling – pushing the envelope of what a comic book is and what a comic book story can be. I mean…a vinyl record? Absolutely out-there brilliance!

After three years of continuous monthly publications, a few digital specials, one-offs, crowd-funding specials and mind-altering formats, today Mind MGMT triumphantly returns in a brand new four-issue miniseries from its longstanding home in publisher, Dark Horse Comics!

Mind MGMT: Bootleg #1 written by Matt Kindt and illustrated by Farel Dalrymple; published by Dark Horse Comics / Flux House.

If you missed the first publication run of Mind MGMT, no worries.

The new Mind MGMT: Bootleg picks up right where that original series left off: with the demise of the Mind MGMT agency, a covert deep-state, quasi-government institution out to shape world politics, cultures and human history. It housed a collective of skilled spies, assassins, criminal masterminds and all-round no-gooders as well as the do-gooders that (somewhat) successfully stopped them.

Brought to you by series creator, Matt Kindt (BRZRKR, Super Spy, Dept. H, Ether, Revolver) and wonderfully illustrated by the incomparable Farel Dalrymple (Pop Gun War, The Wrenchies, Omega The Unknown, Proxima Centauri, It Will All Hurt), Mind MGMT: Bootleg tells the story of a former leader looking to restart the agency, recruiting a host of forgotten and lost agents in order to bend reality and go to war with a competing faction!

Perhaps most interesting, this is Kindt’s first title under his own Dark Horse Comics publishing imprint, Flux House. Under that banner, Kindt aims to tell stories of crime, science fiction and humour, teaming with other fantastically creative people, in order to reach and touch audiences in overt and, best of all, subversive ways. And Mind MGMT has always been the juicy blueprint for the latter.

Make the run to your local comic book shop today and pick up Mind MGMT: Bootleg #1. Join the team of heroic dissidents fighting to control the future history of mankind (as they let the rest of the world know of it).
